THOMAS PINTAR, MD

Dr. Thomas Pintar is a native of Wisconsin who completed his training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he also served as Chief Medical Resident.

His focus is on quality medical care and outcomes, and the development of personal and professional long-term relationships with his patients and his peers. Prior to joining Idaho Nephrology Associates, Dr. Pintar practiced in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 12 years. He enjoys all aspects of consultative Nephrology practice, including fluid and electrolyte diseases, complex cases of glomerulonephritis, care of dialysis patients, and kidney transplant care.

He served as associate director of a kidney transplant program for four years prior to moving to Boise. He is keenly interested in kidney transplant patients and their aftercare. He has a special interest in the care of patients on dialysis and especially home dialysis modalities that he feels give patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) the best opportunity to be successful with their kidney disease therapy.

Dr. Pintar feels that all patients can be trained to perform home dialysis with the benefits of improved outcomes and quality of life. Dr. Pintar believes that the key to Kidney Disease care resides in the education of patients and families and assisting them in making patient-centered, informed decisions regarding their options for care.

Dr. Pintar and his family enjoy Boise, Idaho due to their love of the outdoors, and the wonderful opportunities that the Treasure Valley and the state of Idaho have to offer. In his free time, Dr. Pintar enjoys the outdoors and is an avid recreational road and mountain bicyclist, tri-athlete, and is an avid cross-country skier and snowboarder.
